How do you explain your job to your friends?
I say that I promote Nokia to different external audiences, primarily the media. I also try to explain how important it is that companies communicate internally, as I’m in charge of internal communications at Nokia too. In today’s world I think that most people understand the importance of communications and what it involves, so those of my friends who are interested in what I do already have a relatively clear picture of what it involves.
Arja Suominen has been Nokia Corporation‘s vice president of corporate communications since 2004. Previously, she was director of business development at Nokia Networks from 2002 until 2003. Before this, she worked as vice president communications at Nokia Networks from 1995 until 2002. Suominen started her career as communication officer at Nokia in 1986. One year later she was promoted as communications manager of Finnish media relations. From 1989 until 1996 she worked as communication manager of media relations and financial communications at Nokia.
