The multi-tasker

Part of being a good corporate citizen requires the communications officer to take on different roles

 

 

Sometimes, I fear my time in the tobacco industry is the most interesting aspect of my life. After all, it is a sure-fire conversation starter at any dinner party. Everyone wants to know if my job was about facilitating insidious cover-ups of health studies or making merry and having secret cigar parties with government officials. Occasionally, someone would ask me how I could possibly live with myself, furthering the ambitions of big evil corporations.

Eddie Chew

Eddie Chew is currently head of corporate affairs for Syngenta in ASEAN. Based in Singapore, he is responsible for issues management and stakeholder engagement for the company across six key markets in the territory. He joined Syngenta in 2013 as the corporate affairs business partner for the Global Rice Strategic Crop Unit, with additional responsibilities for policy advocacy and partnerships as the head of public policy for the Asia-Pacific region. Before joining Syngenta, Eddie held a number of marketing and corporate affairs roles in Asia Pacific with DBS Bank, Cargill, and British American Tobacco.
