Clash of the Titans
Takeover bids, particularly when hostile, can often drag on for an age – and in doing so, can easily begin to bore fickle-minded media commentators. As bids are made and amended, press interest will often dwindle, only to be revived once a final agreement is met. Testament to the global significance, then, of the potential for a Microsoft acquisition of Yahoo that the amount of coverage on both companies during the period under review (May to July 2008) has remained quite phenomenal – even when a resolution was looking unlikely.
