The appearance of green shoots of recovery furnished hope that the world economy might be emerging from the doldrums over July, August and September, the period covered by Carma International’s latest survey of media reporting of the world’s leading commercial figures. However, nervousness persisted that the green shoots might be choked by the weeds of recession or wilt in bleak conditions ahead. Clouds looming included the likelihood that unemployment would continue to rise for some time to come and the need for western nations to tackle their burgeoning debt levels. Against this economic backdrop, many commercial leaders continued to express caution on the business outlook.
