Going the distance

Marty Filipowski on the perseverance of the long-distance swimmer

When did you take up swimming?

My mom put me in lessons when I was eight years old at the YMCA where I born and raised in Valparaiso, Indiana. She grew up near Lake Michigan and felt it was important to get my sisters and me going in the water at a young age. Little did I know when I was splashing around in the pool at the Y that I would take-on the English Channel one day.
