Internal communications will have to become more flexible to embrace new work patterns

Businesses are facing decisions that require them to reflect not only on the short-term measures needed to replace or upgrade their communications systems, but also on the medium-term future and the role these systems will play in the next few years. Physical proximity is no longer a sine qua non for collaboration between employers and employees. Technological developments have made it possible – indeed, in some cases, even necessary – to collaborate over distances. But how can people be managed at a distance? Indeed, the question of how managers can use new technology to coordinate and supervise this kind of work is ripe for consideration.
