The European project might have experienced ups and downs in the past years but interest in careers in European policy making shows no signs of abating. Nevertheless, employers in the EU public affairs sphere face a growing issue of attracting and retaining the right kind of talent with up-to-date skill sets as well as achieving a good mix of different nationalities, gender balance and societal and ethnic diversity.

What is the role of communicators to improve their organisations' brand as an employer? What is the impact of organisational image and reputation on those looking for employment opportunities? Does the image of the EU have an impact on the attractiveness of the Brussels bubble to career seekers? What recent changes and trends are shaping the EU public affairs sphere's reputation as a place of employment? How EU institutions, consultancies, NGOs and companies use employer branding techniques to attract and to retain talent?

The European Association of Communication Directors and the European Personnel Selection Office would like to invite you to join our distinguished speakers for a debate on these issues.

Meet the speakers:

David Bearfield has been Director of the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) since 2007. Under his tenure, he delivered a major organisational change programme and developed a new employer branding strategy. EPSO is now recognised as a global leader in public sector recruitment practice. His 25-year experience in the public sector includes a variety of roles in the fields of HR, communication and change management.

Claudine Camilleri is a linguist and work psychologist. She has been working at EPSO for the past 5.5 years, initially as a Project Manager and member of the internal psychologists' team, then as Deputy Head in the E-Selection and Test Development Unit. In November 2015, she took up the post of Head of Unit Communication and Attractiveness and Legal Service.

Natalia Kurop currently serves as senior adviser with Ellwood Atfield and Partner with Dober Partners. Before that she was responsible for media relations on behalf of AEGIS Europe, IAB Europe and The European Technology and Travel Services Association (ETTSA). Natalia is former Board Member of the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD).

David Webber heads the EU Affairs Practice in Odgers Berndtson’s Brussels office. He has placed leaders as well as government and communication directors in corporates, trade associations, not-for-profits and international organisations. Before becoming a headhunter, David provided regulatory and political support to numerous organisations as a public affairs professional with experience in the energy, finance, transport, biotech, digital and life sciences industries. Currently, he chairs the Human Resources Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce.

Béla Dajka is a communication specialist at the European Commission with 10-years' experience at the EU institutions. Prior to moving to Brussels in 2008, he was an editor at the BBC where he also worked in public policy and change management roles. He studied journalism and media management and he is a trained facilitator of participatory discussions and processes.
