How to get a grip on European decision-making

ANP: Jonas Roosens

Brussels is the nucleus of European power. The capital of the European Union is where the decisions are made that could directly influence your product, organisation, market and future. Successful public affairs professionals are familiar with the processes, machinations and sentiments, know who they need to approach to certain ends, and are able to manage and control the vast flow of information from official and non-official sources. This enables them to use their influence early on in the decision-making process.

A warm, personal connection no longer suffices. Information is key. It is best to know more of what is happening or smouldering beneath the surface, than the actual object of the lobby. This way you genuinely have something extra to offer. If you know what is happening, you may well be able to influence or guide European decision-making to prevent sanctions, mitigate requirements or create better market conditions.

Based on research of the professional practice of public affairs professionals in Brussels, the ANP has partnered up with PDC Information Architecture to develop the EU Monitor.
