In February and March, the period covered by CARMA International’s latest survey of media reporting of the commercial world’s leading figures, hopes remained high that the United States, and indeed the whole world, had embarked on a new era following the inauguration of President Barack Obama on January 20. The world’s media tracked President Obama’s first two months in office – which fell within the honeymoon period considered to be the first 100 days for a new presidential incumbent – even as the global economy and financial system lurched further into crisis.
