Buongiorno, Marc Beckers. You started as Head of Group Identity & Communications at Unicredit Group in Milan in July 2006. Was there something specific after you arrived in Italy where you said: “Oh, this is typically Italian.”?
That happened immediately I would say: Italy has a relationship-based work culture where people spend a lot of time meeting each other, not in a formal environment, but just talking to each other. In the Anglo-Saxon company culture everything relies more on formal forms of communication: there are formal meetings, there is e-mail traffic, and this probably dominates the personal aspect of getting close to each other.
Antwerp-born Marc Beckers started his career at GM Belgium in 1979, leading up to the position of executive director global product and brand Communications. Today, he is head of corporate identity and communications at UniCredit Group, where he is responsible for all communications, public affairs and brand management activities of the Group.
