Human Resource Management (HRM) out-sourcing means “having a third-party service provider or vendor furnish, on an ongoing basis, the administration of an HRM activity that would normally be performed in-house” (Cook, 1999:4). HRM outsourcing has grown in popularity since the early 90’s in Western Europe and particularly in the US, where up to 90 per cent of the companies outsource some HRM activity, (Banham, 2003, Cook, 1999). In other countries, however, the use of HRM outsourcing lags behind (Galanaki and Papalexandris, 2005).

Eleanna Galanaki
Eleanna Galanaki has a PhD in Outsourcing of HR Management Functions from Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece, where she also lectures and is research assistant at their Laboratory of Human Resource Management. She is founder and president of the Hellenic Association of Doctoral Researchers, communication officer of Eurodoc, and also holds a masters of arts in HR Management from the University of Newcastle, UK.
