Putting your stamp on a new role

Promotion to head of overall communications is an opportunity to shape the function anew

When you sit down to talk with analysts, you have to talk numbers. That was what I did when I headed investor relations at Grupo Banco Popular. Banco Popular is the third largest banking group in Spain and that meant that I spent a lot of my time meeting analysts and investors, either in Madrid or on roadshows. But when I became Popular’s general technical secretary earlier this year, I quickly realised that I had to communicate story-lines.
