Background & Purpose of the Job

The Associate Manager, Corporate Communications for Unilever North America is responsible for executing effective and measurable communication activities that deliver information, drive action and support the organization’s business objectives. In this role, you will develop innovative programs to communicate strategic priorities and key messages from the North America leadership team to employees. The Associate Manager will also assist the Manager of External Communications in promoting the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan externally and in cultivating a thought leadership program for executives.

Job description: 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate employee town halls including presentation content development, audio/video, streaming and equipment logistics and vendor management
  • Assist in the development and distribution of content through social media for Unilever USA and key executives
  • Develop briefing materials and messaging and coordinate logistics to prepare executives for interviews and external speaking engagements
  • Explore and implement new digital communications capabilities, i.e., social media, podcasts, chat and forums, app-based platforms, mobile and push-notifications, etc.
  • Manage calendar for communications, both internal and external, that leverages and optimizes content across multiple channels, i.e., in-person, email, video, social, digital, etc.
  • Lead overall content strategy and establish department standards to ensure all content is on-brand, compelling for various audience segments, consistent in style and quality
  • Drive engagement on key initiatives including the new Unilever Marketplace, diversity & inclusion, agile work culture, and the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP)
  • Employ a “newsroom” approach to communications, seeking out breaking news and compelling human-interest stories from throughout the business
  • Hands-on writing and editing for various content pieces and channels
  • Set overall measurement process for tracking effectiveness of communications and lead plan to turn insights into action to continuously improve our strategies and tactics
  • Attend external conferences, read industry publications and seek out other opportunities to stay current on best practices to deliver insightful communication recommendations

What You’ll Need to Succeed 

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in multi-channel, content creation in an internal communications, corporate communications or employee engagement role
  • A natural story teller with a proven ability to convey key messages clearly and concisely
  • Excellent communications skills – writing, editing and speaking
  • Experience working with and writing for senior leaders
  • A strong collaborator that possesses the ability to build relationships across the business
  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to manage events
  • Ability to prioritize resources and stay focused on top objectives
  • Experience utilizing digital, social and mobile channels
  • Ability to adapt and learn quickly and remain steady under pressure when on deadline
  • Experience in change management communications
  • Must be proficient in PowerPoint
  • Ideal candidate is curious and hungry for knowledge
  • Track record in developing strategic communications that deliver results
  • Knowledge and expertise in content sourcing, curation, segmentation and localization
  • Understanding of content performance analysis and how to utilize insights to improve communications activities
