NL: Ombelets is VRT’s new head of communication

The Flemish publish broadcasting organization VRT has a new spokesperson and head of communication. Stijn Ombelets is appointed head of communication as his predecessor Brigitte Vermeersch took up her job as a journalist for VRT’s news service again.

VRT’s new head of communication Stijn Ombelets will be responsible for the further development of the public broadcaster’s internal and external communication strategy. He will also act as a spokesperson for the executive board and the board of directors. Björn Verdoodt remains spokesperson for VRT’s channels and brands.

The Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie (Flemish Radio and Television Broadcasting Organization), or VRT, is the national public-service broadcaster for the Flemish Region and Community of Belgium.

It is the successor to the Nationaal Instituut voor de Radio-omroep, Belgische Radio- en Televisieomroep, and Belgische Radio- en Televisieomroep Nederlandstalige Uitzendingen. The NIR (known as the INR in French) and BRT (RTB in French) had each been single state-owned entities with separate Dutch- and French-language production departments, but with the growing degree of federalism resulting from state reform in Belgium, these departments also became increasingly autonomous: the French-language section changed its name to RTBF in 1977 and its Dutch-language counterpart became BRTN in 1991.
