The communications director of NHS Digital, the health service’s national information and technology partner, is to join IBM as communications chief at its UK healthcare and life sciences team.

Rachel Royall is joining IBM after NHS Digital announced a three-year, £30m strategic partnership with the technology giant to strengthen its cyber-security defences. It was also announced that IBM has joined the Association of British Insurers as an associate member, making it the largest firm to do so.

Prior to NHS Digital, Royall was director of communications and marketing at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
